The RA/245 Project is composed of two sections
Section 1- Upgrade of the existing Abdaly Highway
Section 1 is the upgrade of the existing Abdaly Highway from a 3-lane dual carriageway into a 5-lane dual carriageway with a total length of 9.8km. This section starts at the Jahra Road/Abdaly Highway Interchange #36 with the 6th Ring Road and ends at a point north of the proposed interchange #1. Construction of this highway section entails 365,450 cu.m. of excavation, 1,065,500 cu.m. of embankment and 789,340 sq.m. of new asphalt paving.
Section 2- Construction of a new 3-lane dual carriageway
Section 2 is a new 3-lane dual carriageway with a total length of 11.4km extending east-west between interchange #1 and an existing elevated roundabout interchange along Subiya Motorway. Construction of this section involves 4,979,350 cu.m. of excavation, 1,329,300 cu.m. of embankment construction and 292,250 sq.m. of new asphalt paving. Excavated material from this section is to be used for embankment requirements in Section 1.
The two sections will be connected by a new 4-level Interchange, referred to as Interchange #1. Construction of this interchange involves 13,000 LM of ramps, of which 7,600 LM will be deck-on-pier structures.
